History of the First Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving Day is an mainly an American holiday celebrated at the fourth Thursday of November. This celebration is dated back to around 400 years ago when the early visitors harvested their first farm products. These early visitors were Englishmen and Indians. The Englishmen left their country because their King wanted them to use the payers that he used. Upset with this, they left their country and moved to Holland. At Holland life was hard and they were very poor. So they decided to move to America. They sailed across the Atlantic Ocean using a ship called Mayflower. The journey was rough. They encountered storms, hunger and cold. They arrived the new land in November and it was winter season. The all place was snow and they lacked food. Of the 100 a few survived. When the sun shone in spring, an Indian taught them how to plant corn peas, wheat and barley. During autumn all the crops yielded well and they saw the need of saying thank you God. They gathered together and invited the Indian friends. They prepared geese, Turkey, wild duck, deer, meat bread and cakes and gave thanks to God. Since then this tradition went on and on until today.
